Family Dinners

"Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it." Proverbs 22:6

Family dinners are a great place to start. You know, that time at the end of the day where family members gather around the table to break bread and discuss the day's events.

What has happened to family dinners?

Unfortunately sit down meals are becoming less and less frequent for most households. We are all just too busy. Tired from work and running from activity to activity is not conducive to that once treasured time families shared at the end of the day.

But this has to change. It is just too is valuable to lose!

Family dinner is so important and yet so often overlooked. We live in such a fast paced world and everyone is going off in their own directions for many hours of the day, family dinner is that time when parents and children can come together and reconnect. It's a time to discuss the day, impart values and wisdom, to love and to laugh. To be a family together. It is the glue which keeps us from falling apart. Which builds us up and keeps us strong.

Children of families who sit around the table and eat dinner together are :

* less likely to smoke, drink, or use drugs

* less likely to develop eating disorders

* more likely to eat more fruits and vegetables

* less likely to be overweight

* more likely to do well in school

And Mom...you're more likely to spend less on food!!

You know it's all about creating a quality of life. Do you want to run around like a chicken with your head cut off grabbing food and eating on the run? Or do you want time...time to spend with your loved ones...time to connect and find out what's what.

True it will take a little extra work, but it is well worth it in the end!!

And with proper planning it really can be done!!

And that is this gal's view for today.
